some years now, the family of "traditional pet" added new friends, and one of these is the rabbit.
Unlike what most people think, the domestic rabbit is a lagomorph , meaning "hare-shaped" (from the greek lagos (λαγος), "Hare", and morph (μορφή) , "form") and not a rodent.
is a much loved pet because it is quiet, rarely bites, does not smell and can be trained to use the litter box. Usually, moreover, is in good health, provided that it is protected from predators by extreme environmental conditions, trauma, and that they are given proper nutrition and you follow proper hygienic standards.
There are about 45 breeds recognized by the rabbit nano, which can reach a pound in weight, to the larger breeds, such as the New Zealand white or California, which can reach 10 kg!
The most common and popular are the nano and lion's head (at least here in Italy).
Due to their timid nature do not like being handled (although this can vary from person to person), and tend to retreat to the bottom of their cage, or fight with the hind leg, as if to signal a periocolo. For this reason they are not very suitable for younger children. Generally are not very playful, alternating periods of sleep at times of activity and exploration.
Like all animals mark territory, usually by rubbing their cheeks and biting objects, but not castrated male urine spraying can do it, so if you want to avoid this problem, ask your veterinarian.
Now we say goodbye, hoping to be been useful. We'll come back soon rabbits of our friends, with some advice to keep them healthy and fit.
